USING THE IMAGES
All 50 images on this disc are provided in high-, medium- and low-
resolution formats. The high-resolution images have been sized to fit
on a standard 11"x17" page at their optimal resolution and the
medium-resolution images on a standard 8 1/2"x11" page.
The high- and medium-resolution images are stored using JPEG
compression. We have found that with this compression method there
are no visible artifacts created in the images. After you have opened
and/or worked with the images, they should be saved to your hard
drive in a format other than JPEG, such as TIFF or EPS. Compressing
the images again by saving them as JPEGs is not recommended.
The low-resolution images are ready to be used in any leading design,
desktop publishing or multimedia software that supports the TIFF
format.
Clipping Paths - All 50 images on this disc come complete with
precise, hand-drawn clipping paths. Clipping paths allow you to
easily isolate the objects from their backgrounds when you are placing
them within different layouts or designs. Using a clipping path will
give you objects with smooth and accurate edges. This is important
when the desired effect is to create an exact outline and an invisible
transition between your object and the background you are placing it
on.
To export a clipping path into a desktop publishing or page-layout
program, you must first open the object image with imaging software
such as Adobe Photoshop(TM), and then save the image to your hard
drive as an EPS file. This file can then be imported or opened into
applications which can recognize and utilize clipping paths. If you
wish to work with the object within Photoshop, you can simply
convert the clipping path to a selection. Please consult your manual
for specific details on working with clipping paths. If you are using
programs other than Photoshop for image editing, please consult your
software manual to see if they support clipping paths.
When using a clipping path, an appropriate flatness value should be
specified based on both the complexity of the path and your output
device. As a general rule, the lower the flatness value, the smoother
the outline of the object when it is output. We have pre-assigned a
default value for each object's clipping path. You may need to alter
this setting depending on your output requirements and the ability of
your output device in handling clipping paths.

USING THE ADOBE ACROBAT* IMAGE PREVIEW
You will find thumbnail versions of all 50 images on the printed CD-
ROM insert contained in the CD-ROM jewel case. If, however, you
wish to view the images at a larger size without having to open the
images through your software, you can open the Frames.pdf file
contained on this disc. This preview uses Adobe Acrobat and is a
helpful way to reference the images quickly and efficiently. If you
have Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader installed on your system,
simply open the Frames.pdf file and start your preview. If you do not
have version 3.0 installed, you may have problems opening and
displaying the pdf file. If you need to install version 3.0, it has been
included on this disc.

GETTING THE BEST RESULTS
WITH IMAGE FARM IMAGES
1) On-Screen Use - All images come ready for on-screen use in 72
dpi RGB TIFF format.
2) Desktop Printing - All images can be printed on either a black and
white or color desktop printer according to your printer's
instructions. When printing in color, you should be aware of inherent
differences between the appearance of the images on your screen and
what is produced by your particular printing device. To optimize for
color, you may wish to use your software tools to adjust color
saturation, contrast, hues, etc. before printing.
3) Color Separations and Commercial Printing - The high-resolution
images can be used for separations up to 11" x 17" at 300 dpi and the
medium-resolution images can be used for separations up to 8 1/2" x
11" @ 300 dpi. A few things should be checked before going to film in
order to optimize your final output. We recommend that you calibrate
your system for the best color management. You should proof your
work at your own facility for general layout, and obtain a professional
proof from your service bureau or film house before going to print.
Most importantly, make sure you have discussed your final output
requirements with your printer or output service bureau to ensure
that they understand your needs and can perform a high-quality job
for you.
All the images on this disc are professionally photographed, drum-
scanned on high-end scanners, and color corrected for optimal image
quality. When printing in full-color, we suggest that you convert
your images from RGB to CMYK TIFF or CMYK EPS formats for the best
printed results. Your local service bureau should be able to answer
all your questions concerning color management, image resolution,
image format, as well as other technical concerns.
4) Downsampling Images - Whenever you re-size an image to a size
significantly smaller than the original, we advise that you sharpen the
image using the appropriate tools your software offers for this
process.
